STATE DROUGHT DECLARATION

On April 16, the Department of Ecology issued a statewide drought that excludes areas served by Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma.

Soos Creek Water & Sewer District receives water from Seattle Public Utilities (SPU.) SPU and all 24 neighboring cities and water districts that receive water from SPU are exempt from the drought declaration.

SPU carefully manages our water supply year-round and plans months ahead using forecasts and hydrologic modeling to predict possible future reservoir conditions. SPU tracked snowpack closely this winter, decided to start refilling their reservoirs early and is preparing to fill the reservoirs to higher levels than normal. This will help maximize our water storage in preparation for the summer months. Based on current conditions and forecasts, SPU anticipates the regional water system will have sufficient water supply for people and fish this spring. As always, we ask our customers to use water wisely.
