LEAD AND COPPER RULE

Soos Creek Water & Sewer District maintains consistently high water quality standards. Our water comes from the Cedar River watershed, over 90,000 acres of land in southeast King County owned and managed by the City of Seattle. The water is cleaned and treated to meet or exceed all state and federal drinking water standards before it reaches your house.

The EPA established the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) in 1991 to protect public health and reduce exposure to lead in drinking water.

Lead is rarely found in significant quantities in naturally occurring sources of water, such as streams, lakes, rivers, or ground water. The most common sources of lead in drinking water are lead pipes, solder, and brass fittings in faucets and fixtures. Lead from lead pipes, solder and brass fittings can dissolve into water or sometimes can enter as flakes or small particles.

Implementation of the LCR over the past twenty-five years has resulted in major improvements in public health. The most recent EPA 2021 Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) require that public water systems comply with an initial service line inventory, notification to persons served of known or potential lead service lines, Tier 1 public notification of a lead action level exceedance, and associated reporting requirements. These requirements are effective starting on October 16, 2024.

In compliance with the 2021 LCRR, Soos Creek Water and Sewer District has completed our lead service line inventory and submitted our inventory to the Department of Health as required. We have found no known nor potential lead service lines within the District, and no lead action level exceedance within the District.

The District is providing a searchable Excel list of all District customer residential service addresses with the results of our inventory. You will need to open the document and search Column B for your address. Results of our lead and copper service line inventory for your address are found in Column O.
